Our 3-day Nyerere National Park Safari from Zanzibar Island is one of the most famous short safari tours from Zanzibar. This 3-day safari from Zanzibar to Nyerere National Park is one of the few short tours that one can take by road from the capital city of Dar es Salaam after having flown from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam International Airport and back from Dar to Zanzibar.

This tour takes you to the less crowded Southern Tanzania Safari Circuit that offers a variety of activities apart from the traditional game drives. This particular safari tour in the Park offers you the chance not only to do game viewing in a 4×4 safari land cruiser, but also to go on an authentic walking safari in the largest game reserve in the world, but also a rare boat safari in the great Rufiji River.

Day 1 :

Fly From Zanzibar to Dar Es Salaam and Drive to Nyerere National Park

This morning, take a flight from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam, where you will be met by your safari guide. You will arrive at Dar es Salaam around 08.00 hrs, and your driver will take you straight to Nyerere National Park, where you will arrive around lunch time. You will settle down at your lodge or camp for a hot lunch and some rest. In the afternoon, you will be taken to the jetty where the boat safari starts. You will spend the afternoon doing a boat safari, a magnificent experience in the Great Rufiji. Crocodiles, hippos, black and white colobus monkey, crocodiles, and birds such as fish eagles, pied kingfishers, giant kingfishers, etc, can be seen here as well as other animals as they converge to quench their thirst. Crocodiles take advantage to hunt their prey, and you might be treated to sights of animal action if lucky.

After Lunch and an extensive game drive, we head for our lodge near the park for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 :

Nyerere National Park (Full Day)

Early morning breakfast this day at your camp/lodge, then you will check in at the gates of the Nyerere National Park for a full day of game viewing inside the Park. You will spend this full day in the vast game reserve doing wildlife game drives in search of animals and birds. You expect to spot gazelles, giraffes, impalas, elephants, wildebeests, kudus, zebras, but also, with a little luck, you may spot the rarest of them all, the African wild dogs.

The park covers unexploited African wilderness with an interesting landscape that has topography that varies from prominent savannah woodlands, rolling savannah grassland plains, and rocky outcrops that are believed to have been formed a long time ago by the Rufiji River. Nyerere National Park is also home to the big cats, including the leopards and prides of lions.

After Lunch and an extensive game drive, we head for our lodge near the park for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 :

Half Game Drive Nyerere National Park – Fly Dar Es Salaam to Zanzibar

Early morning breakfast, then you will go for a walking safari inside the Park, a rare chance to come close to the wildlife and explore the African wilderness on foot. For your ultimate safety, you will be escorted by an armed ranger who is also a trained naturalist. After the walking safari, you embark on your drive back to Dar es Salaam by road. You will arrive in Dar es Salaam in the late afternoon if you drive by road. You will be dropped off at the Dar es Salaam International Airport for your flight back to Zanzibar Island.
