Tour Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be met by your transfer driver and taken to your accommodation in Moshi. After settling in, you’ll receive a detailed briefing about your upcoming Mount Meru trek. Your guide will review the route, safety protocols, and expectations for the hike, followed by a full gear and equipment check to ensure you are well-prepared for the journey ahead.

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven approximately 45 minutes to Arusha National Park. Following park entry formalities, the journey continues a short distance to Momella Gate, the official starting point of the Mount Meru climb.
The trek begins with a gentle ascent through verdant forest and open meadows. After roughly two hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Maio Falls — a scenic spot ideal for a short rest. From here, the trail continues toward the iconic Arched Fig Tree, uniquely curved to form a natural passageway over the path. With another 1½–2 hours of steady climbing, you will reach Miriakamba Hut for an overnight stay.

This morning, the trail follows a steep wooden staircase through lush highland forest. As the altitude increases, temperatures become noticeably cooler and the air fresher, making the ascent more comfortable than the previous day. After approximately two hours of hiking, you will reach the scenic viewpoint known as Mgongo wa Tembo (“Elephant Back”) at 3,200m, where you’ll enjoy a well-deserved rest and panoramic views.
The trail then continues upward as the dense rainforest transitions into open bushland and moorland terrain. By midday, you will arrive at Saddle Hut (3,550m) for lunch and a short break.
In the afternoon, an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) is available. This side trip takes around 1–1½ hours and rewards climbers with sweeping vistas across Arusha National Park and distant views of Mount Kilimanjaro, approximately 80 km away.

Your guide will wake you around 00:30 for a light snack of tea and biscuits before beginning the summit push at approximately 01:30. The trek starts with a steep ascent toward Rhino Point (3,800m) and continues onward to Cobra Point (4,350m). As you climb higher, the trail becomes more rugged, and during the final hour you will navigate a rocky ridge situated between the crater walls and the inner cliffs of Mount Meru.
You will reach the summit at Socialist Peak (4,565m) in time for sunrise, where dramatic views unfold over the crater floor, the ash cone, and the distant silhouette of Mount Kilimanjaro glowing above the clouds. After savoring this spectacular moment and capturing photos, you will begin the descent back to Saddle Hut for a brief rest and refreshments.
Following the break, the descent continues down through changing vegetation zones until you return to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) for an overnight stay.

Upon reaching the base of Mount Meru at Momella Gate, you will meet your driver for the journey back to Arusha, marking the end of your Mount Meru trekking adventure.
